Close to God
Closing in on God can be done by laying down the distractions of our natural life. When we do this, we open our spirits to an awareness of God. Fasting was a key for me to unlock the door to be near to God and trust that He was in the details of all the medical treatments. He was still my healer, even in the midst of working with the Mayo care team. The Wednesday evening prior to starting chemo on Friday morning, I ate my dinner as usual and from that point forward, I was drinking water until the Saturday morning following chemotherapy. Normally, it would be difficult for me to fast from food for that duration of time. I wasn’t hard for me. I just did it with ease. I knew in my heart that God was with me in this decision, He extended His grace for me to do it and I believe that I received strength from the confirmation that God was in this with me. The most difficult part of this process was explaining to the medical staff. I learned that I was my best advocate. I knew that I needed to do what others may not agree with or understand. Of course, they aren’t me and didn’t seek God on what to do. Why would they know?
