Doing what I can

You can’t blame an analyst for being an analyst?  While I believed that I had a strong faith in God, I also believed that I had to do what I was supposed to do for God to do what He does:  Move mountains.  A mustard seed of faith moves mountains, but faith without works is dead.

Let’s go back to before any of this mess came to light.  In January, while I was praying and seeking God, I had been getting an impression that I should fast.  So, this was in the back of my mind because I wasn’t clear that I was getting direction to start.  After hearing about my tumor, I did a bit of research on Dr. Mercola’s website about clinical studies and there was a program in Greece that claimed that Keto was helping cancer patients overcome.  It turns out that in 2017 prior to Jim and I moving into our new home, my son influenced me to investigate Keto.  At that time, I ordered a cookbook called The Ketogenic Kitchen, by Domini Kemp and Patricia Daly.  It was recommended by Dr. Mercola who has been my go-to doctor for homeopathic approaches for more than ten years.  My brother Joe, who died of complications from MS had told me about him.  The book has low carb recipes, gives background on the authors, and talks about some of the mechanics of keto.  After I picked it back up again, I read about the authors and was reminded they both had cancer and teamed up to write the book to help others with cancer.

One thing led to another, and I had started talking to my brother Dave’s pharmacist in WI.  It turns out that Jon is also a nutritionist and had worked at a hospital nearby.  I connected with Jon over the phone.  Most of our conversation was about Keto, but he also told me about a man that he knew that was fasting as part of his chemotherapy routine. He mentioned that he was surprised by how strong and healthy this man looked.  He would fast by drinking only water for so many days prior to chemotherapy and then, the following day he would start to eat again.  I did some additional online research and found that there was a website that also had an article about this.  The theory was if you fast, your body believes it must conserve energy and it shuts down your healthy cells.  It also stated that cancer never shuts down so if you fast before chemotherapy the chemo hits the cancer cells while your healthy cells are shut down.  I started considering whether I would do this.

James 2:18 -24 NKJV

“But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.”

Matthew 17:20 NKJV

“…if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
